The elevator suddenly starts up again but now it’s going
in the wrong direction, up instead of down. Monica
frantically presses the button for her floor, the fifth
floor, then also for the ground floor. But the elevator
takes her back up once more. And the doors reopen, back
on the top floor. The seventh.
As soon as the doors open up again, Monica looks ahead in
terror and cries out. An OLD MAN is standing in front of
her, his skin is dry, dirty and full of spots. He’s
completely naked. A piece of black cloth rests on his
head and covers his entire face. He just stands there, in
front of her, saying nothing. And from under the cloth,
she hears that incessant noise from before. A horrible,
disgusting sound of something being gnawed on.
Monica screams out in horror, her body pressed up against
the elevator wall, while the old man stands still without
entering. After a few moments the doors close again and
the elevator resumes its descent.
3 – INT / LOBBY / EVENING
The light is now on in the doorman's booth. Inside,
Monica, still shaken and trembling, stands next to
Giuliano; they are both silent under the gaze of the
DOORMAN, a sixty-year-old man with a thick white mustache
and a surly, unfriendly appearance. Monica hesitates to
make eye contact with the doorman, who looks at her
skeptically. She looks around as she speaks, trying to
avoid the gaze of the two men who instead stare at her
incessantly.
MONICA
He was there… stood still… and just stared…
DOORMAN
Didn’t you say that his face was covered?
MONICA
Yes, I know… But I could feel them… his eyes on me… I
don’t know how to explain it…
