apartments but only attics. There are old broken-down
doors, stacked wooden crates, cobwebs in the corners and
on the ceiling. The atmosphere is of a place long
abandoned. From the layers of dust that cover everything,
it seems like no one has been going up here for years.
Monica walks down the hallway, with attics on both sides,
and observes them with curiosity. There are small
crevices enclosed by wooden doors that don’t fully cover
the doorways, allowing a glimpse of the interior to be
seen. Monica walks among these small rooms until a noise
startles her.
She suddenly comes to a stop and awaits in silence. And,
once again, a noise seems to come from one of the attics,
the last one in the back, almost in the dark. It is a
strange noise, like something is being gnawed on, a sort
of eerie gurgling sound.
MONICA (her voice trembling)
Is anyone there?
No one answers and the noise continues, incessantly.
Monica slowly starts to perceive another noise coming
from that cellar, which sounds like a shuffling of
footsteps of someone struggling to walk. Then, slowly,
the door at the back creaks open, but no one comes out.
At that moment the elevator comes back up and the bell
rings signaling its arrival. The sudden ringing of the
bell startles Monica into realizing that the elevator has
returned and she rushes inside, almost bumping into the
mirror. She hysterically presses the button for the fifth
floor. The doors close and she breathes a sigh of relief.
The elevator starts its decent. Then, suddenly, the
descent comes to a sudden halt and the cabin wobbles
frighteningly. Monica falls to the ground. Now the
elevator has stopped. Monica gets up and screams into the
elevator's emergency intercom.
MONICA
Help me… the elevator is stuck. Can anybody hear me? The
elevator is stuck!!!!
