The three of them walk out of the doorman’s lodge and
slowly, without speaking, arrive at the elevator.
Surveillance cameras capture them, first as they leave
the doorman’s lodge, then as they stop in front of the
elevator.
The doorman calls the elevator and as soon as the door
opens he moves aside to let Monica pass. She remains
still and looks inside, she has a worried expression on
her face. The elevator is empty. Giuliano looks at her
and says nothing. Slowly she finally enters. The two men
enter after her. Then the elevator door closes.
4 – INT / LAST FLOOR / EVENING
A door opens. It’s the door to one of the attics on the
last floor. The one from which that strange noise was
coming. Giuliano tries to turn on the light switch, but
it doesn’t work.
DOORMAN
The light bill hasn’t been paid since the tenant left.
Giuliano gives him a look of complicity then turns to
look at Monica, and gives her, instead, an icy,
aggressive stare.
The doorman enters first, in the dark, and turns on the
flashlight he brought with him. The attic is almost
empty, there are only a few wooden crates inside, full of
dirty objects and rusty work tools. In a corner of the
room there’s a snapped mousetrap.
MONICA
Ther… there are mice up here?
DOORMAN
Not that I know of…
GIULIANO
Was it a mouse that scared you?
