understanding. Giuliano exits, Monica follows. The
doorman also looks at the drawing. The man in the drawing
has the same haircut and manicured beard as Giuliano.
5 – INT / BEDROOM / NIGHT
Giuliano and Monica are in bed, the bedroom is very
scarcely lit. They are having sex, violently. Giuliano is
on top of her, possessing her with animal eagerness,
without even looking at her. She seems to passively
suffer, without any kind of emotional or physical
participation. Her head is turned toward the wall. Their
position is very reminiscent of that of the two figures
in the drawing on the attic wall.
Little by little, still being crushed by Giuliano’s
thrusts, Monica's gaze begins to narrow until she focuses
her attention on a photograph of the two of them
embracing. In the photo Monica is smiling; Giuliano is
not. Her eyes, however, in the photograph as well,
express disgust.
Then, after they finished having intercourse, Giuliano
exits her, and without saying a word returns to his side
of the bed, turns and closes his eyes, without deigning
Monica with a word or a glance.
She remains with her gaze staring off into the distance,
looking at the photo hanging on the wall. This time her
attention lingers on the gesture of him embracing her.
His hand, on her shoulder, seems tight, as if pulling her
toward him. Monica seems suddenly disturbed by something,
as if by a sudden thought. She leans over on her side of
the bed and slowly pulls back the covers. And she looks
under the bed. Then, again very slowly, she turns to look
at Giuliano, who seems to be sleeping soundly. Monica
goes back to her side of the bed, and looks wide-eyed at
the ceiling.
6 – INT / GARAGE / NIGHT
In the basement garage a few neon lights coldly
illuminate the cars that are parked in their assigned
places. Among the cars, almost hidden by the darkness, we
also recognize Giuliano's car. The absolute silence is
broken by a metallic sound, dry and decisive. Then, an
insistent squeak. The sound of a mouse caught in a trap.
And, soon after, we hear the same noise we heard in the
last attic. The sound of someone walking, slowly,
dragging their feet, as if too tired to walk properly.
