WEB DOC 14-18: Abdoulaye Ndiaye the last Senegalese skirmisher
I was forcibly enlisted in 1914 and taken to Dakar. We were grouped together and embarked. This is how Abdoulaye Ndiaye told the story of the beginning of his war in 1914-18. Abdoulaye Ndiaye was probably the last Senegalese rifleman of the First World War. He died in 1998 the day before he was to receive the Legion of Honor promised by French President Jacques Chirac.
